This is a 30 year old male from the Phoenix, Arizona area who came to my Paradise Valley, Arizona area medical center with interest in rejuvenating his brow and eyes. The patient had previously undergone a lower lid blepharoplasty (skin and fat removal) by another doctor, but was not satisfied with the final appearance of his lids as he felt there was still a hollowed appearance. The patient also wished to improve the lines on his forehead and the creases between his nose and the corners of his lips.. After seeing this patient, I felt that he had a few issues which could be improved significantly without the need for surgery. With regards to his forehead, the deeper lines were due to excess activation by the frontalis (forehead) muscle and corrugator/glabellar (eyebrow) muscles. I felt that botox of the forehead and eyebrow muscles would significantly soften these lines. The area around this patient's eyes demonstrated a hollowness below the lower lid, escecially noticable at the junction between the lowe lids and the upper cheek. To improve this, I offered placement of Restylane as a filler substance to camoflage these hollow areas. Also, I felt that adding a filler under the lids would help to support the lower lids and place them in a better, more natural position. Finally, I offered restylane to fill in the grooves between the nostrils and the corners of his lips (the nasolabial fold). I used 40 units of botox in the forehead, 25 units of botox on the eyebrows and 10 units in the crow's feet regions. I also injected 0.25cc of restylane in the lid-cheek interface on each side, and placed 0.25cc in each nasolabial fold. The patient did quite well, and demonstrated a very rejuvenated, natural appearance. In this particular situation, no surgery was needed to achieve an excellent result.
